Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant

‘Ayurveda is a spiritual discipline’ so says the highly experienced Doctor of Ayurveda Dr’ Vasant Lad. The fundamental theory of Ayurvedic treatment is based on the theory of balance among the three bio-energetic systems which are called in Sanskrit the Tri Doshas. Each person’s constitution is controlled by one or two of the doshas and was bequeathed to them at conception. This constitution cannot be changed. These three building blocks, roughly air, water and fire, produce different body-types.  If all the Tridoshas (three bio-energetic principles) are balanced, then health is the outcome. If they are unbalanced then disease is the outcome.

What are the aims of an Ayurvedic Consultation?

Each individual is born with a pre-determined basic pattern and the Tridoshas and character-type are part of this pattern. The balance is finely tuned and the equilibrium is easily disturbed. This is called the persons Prakriti. The imbalanced or overbalanced condition of these systems, in any part of the body, causes ill-health which manifests as the symptoms of disease. It is the purpose of the consultation to determine what constitution you are and in what way you can be helped to a finer state of health. Western medicine is aimed at the physical or mental health of the patient whereas Ayurveda focuses on the full range of human experience. This means that an Ayurvedic Therapist is focused on the raising of the awareness of the patient and will be concerned about social relationships, work and spiritual growth in addition to the currently prevailing ‘dis-ease’. Ayurvedic therapists believe that man does not need medicine if the diet is right and it is not medicine that is needed if the diet is wrong!!
