The Bowen Technique
The Bowen Technique is a gentle, non-invasive ‘hands-on’ therapy that allows the body to reset and heal itself. A Bowen treatment consists of a series of gentle moves on skin (or through light clothing), with the client lying on a bed or comfortable treatment couch. A treatment session lasts from half an hour to an hour and frequently results in a deep sense of overall relaxation, allowing the body to recharge and balance itself.
Recently documented studies have shown the beneficial effects of deep levels of relaxation on the human immune and hormonal systems. The Bowen Technique can be extremely effective for musculo-skeletal problems such as back pain, sports injuries and many other ailments and discomforts.
The body is a highly complex unit dependent upon the balance of all its aspects. Bowen moves are, in themselves, a study in delicacy, being gentle, light and very precise. Frequent pauses between moves give the body time to respond and benefit.
There is no person that cannot be treated safely using Bowen, from the youngest to the oldest. Midwives use Bowen with tremendous success on both labouring women and the new-born. At the other end of the scale, geriatric staff and hospice workers report consistently good results with people in their care. In the middle years many self-limiting conditions from menopausal symptoms, arthritis, sports injuries, stress related problems and sleeplessness can be helped. Back pain is one of the most common presentations and one that often responds very quickly. Other conditions that are consistently resolved include: frozen shoulder, asthma, tennis elbow, ME, migraine, hay fever, carpal tunnel, RSI, painful or lumpy breasts and whiplash and many other problems.
Susan Hagan is an experienced and sensitive remedial therapist who uses the Bowen Technique to great effect and with deep personal satisfaction.
